"Once in a Millennium Moon", McNeil Street and Cotton Street

"Once in a Millennium Moon" Meg Saligman

The most visible public art seen from I-20 and a landmark for many driving through Shreveport, Louisiana, "Once in a Millennium Moon" is a large mural, 30,000 square feet,  that covers two walls of the AT&T Building on the corner of McNeil Street and Cotton Street. The artist was Meg Saligman and the painting was done in 2001, with the help of 2,600 community painters.  "Once in a Millenium Moon" by Meg Saligman was the largest publicly funded mural in the United States.  Saligman is a pioneer in murals as she the first to incorporate public figures in her murals, and also has developed a technique to enable many members of a community to help paint the giant art projects.  "Once in a Millenium Moon" is a celebration of life and its cycles.
